December 9, 2005:
We just heard the sad news that former Computer Services Operations
Manager Mike Mulloy's wife Dulcie passed away on December
8th after a long illness. Over the past many years, Mike has
devoted himself to her care and happiness. Condolences go
to Mike and his family from his many friends at Bay State.
Funeral arrangements can be found at the JJ
Duffy Funeral Home website. Mike's email address can be
found in our Email Locator.
December 9, 2005:
We just received the first installment from our Roving Reporter, Bob (you can call me Bob, Jeff, or Anytime) Jeffery. Here goes:
- Most of you probably know already, but for those who don't. FEDEX now occupies about 35 acres of the Brockton Division property. It is a massive distribution facility surrounded by more fencing than Attica Prison.
- Victor Nordahl, a Corrosion Analyst in Brockton for over 25 years, passed away recently.
- The Brockton Christmas Dinner will be held on December 10th at the Radisson Hotel in Brockton.
- The Brockton Boxers won the Sate Division One Super Bowl with a 13-0 record. They are ranked 12th in the country.
- Bob Aziz, wife Thora, and children Robbie and Kim are
doing well up north in Salisbury, Mass. Bob is working
in Real Estate and his future plans include the leasing
of a Dunkin Donuts in St. Petersburg, Florida, about 2
hours from other retirees; the Teasdales, Shermans, Doucettes, Luciers
and others. His son Robbie has his own business dealing
in annuities and other financial instruments. Daughter
Kim is doing well.
- The Fab 10 is still meeting monthly and is approaching their 100th meeting (editor's note: how about an updated photo!)
- Will try to get an update on Bob Shupe.
December 4, 2005:
Congratulations to Tom and Anne Sherman, who are happy grandparents once again! Daughter Becky gave birth to baby girl Zoe on October 20th. Zoe's brother Zachary and father Mark welcomed the family's new addition and Tom reports that all are doing very well.
Tom and Anne were joined by John and Kathy Doucette on the banks of the Florida Intracoastal waterway in Venice to take in the annual Venice Christmas boat parade. Refreshments included wine and raisonettes. Oh, those wild and crazy retirees!
December 2, 2005:
From our Roving Reporter - Bob Jeffery:
"It is not my intent to hog space on this site, but when I
read John's note on November 17th, I thought it would be a
shame to lose this "update" forum he created. It really is
a great way to find what old friends are doing since our retirements.
I told John I would send him info periodically. Some stuff
may be "old hat" and meaningless but at least it keeps this
site going. So, I will be reporting from "the south". I've
noticed Sonja checks in once in a while from "the deep south".
Now we need reporters from the "east","west","far west" and
"north" to report happenings in those areas.
It was good to hear from Roger Bazin, an old pal from up north.
Next: What's Bob Aziz doing?
P.S.----I recently received a blasphemous note from our infamous
editor and CEO of this site, calling me an old bas--rd and
wishing that Massachusetts would get over a foot of snow very
soon. I replied "I hope the very hot Florida burns and blisters
your old bummy"----------to be continued.
November 30, 2005:
We just heard from Roger Bazin of the Lawrence Division. He
and Jane are now living in Maine. Roger has a new email address
- you can find it in our Email Locator.
Take a moment to drop him a line. We're sure he'd like to
hear from you.
You may be hearing from Bob Jeffery. He's put on his "roving
reporter" hat and is looking for alumni news and happenings
to post on our website. Don't be shy. If he calls you, spill
the beans. Inquiring minds want to know.
November 17, 2005:
Well, it's been pretty quiet on the alumni front. Your editor just noticed a few cobwebs growing on his keyboard. We'd love to hear from you. We get a steady stream of jokes via email from Bob Jeffery and we may have to resort to posting them as a last resort. That's a threat!
October 23, 2005:
Former Brockton Division Grand Poobah Bob Jeffery couldn't resist taking a follicular shot at two former colleagues. Here's his rant:
"Looked at the pictures of the BSG Floridian Reunion and was shocked to see the hair do's of the males. Jim and Barry looked well coffed but what happened to Douce and Tom????? Did the Florida sun pull those little wiskies away? I hear that Roger Falcione runs a hair restorer company in Arizona. Maybe a visit would help!!!
Seriously, the best to all of you and all Floridians facing Wilma."
Editor's Note: It's great to see that old age has not robbed Jeff of his sense of humor (or apparently his Ringo Starr mop-top!)
October 21, 2005:
Florida may be the land of BSG Alumni reunions as age, palm
tree envy, or a desire to escape the harsh New England winters
propels our numbers south. Last week, part-time Floridians
Tom Sherman and Kathy and John Doucette
had dinner with full-timers Sonja and Jim Teasdale
and Veronica and Barry Lucier. (editor's note:
Anne Sherman was back home in Massachusetts
coordinating work on the Sherman's kaput heating system while
Tom was busy shooting a 79 on the golf course!! Now that's
a good wife). Anyway, the evening was spent catching up on
new times and reminiscing about the good ol' days at Bay State.
Probably too much time was spent listening to John recount
the various pranks that enlivened the daily lives of the Computer
Services gang. Before we knew it, the night was over. The
group agreed that a followup get-together was warranted. A
few pictures were taken to validate the event. Check them
out.
Editor's Note: The gang met at a restaurant called Hurricane Harry's, which is now in
the target path of Hurricane Wilma. Now isn't that special!!!

The Whole Gang

October 18, 2005:
Our roving reporter, let's call him/her Not-So-Deep-Throat, has news on a few alums. Seems that Chris Tenney and Paul LaShoto snagged "extras" roles in The Brotherhood, a Showtime series being filmed in Providence. Chris also had a role in Fever Pitch, last year's comedy about the wild 2004 Red Sox season. And he has appeared
recently in a Pepsi commercial (the one where the Patriots draft a Pepsi machine). Steve Curran is doing just "fine" working for the Boston Museum of Fine Art in charge of fine-ances for the upcoming museum expansion. He's based in Copley Place, not at the museum itself.
October 17, 2005:
We just received the sad news from several alumni that George Peachey, a veteran of our Brockton division's sales department, and one of the nicest men you could ever meet, passed away this past Friday, October 14th after a brief illness. He was 85.
George always greeted you with a smile and a quip, and always asked how you were doing in a way that you know he meant it. Peach was former sales manager at the Brockton division. He graduated from Quincy High School in 1939 and excelled in sports there. He was captain of the hockey team, played baseball and basketball. He was elected to the Quincy High School Hall of Fame in 1943. After retiring from Bay State, George became assistant coach in hockey, baseball and golf for Quincy High school. His obituary is attached, courtesy of Dennis Blackwell. May George rest in peace.
September 19, 2005:
Hey, we're getting some activity going on the site. Just heard from Sonja Teasdale.
"Checking in from Naples, Florida. I don't know where the Teasdale's went wrong, but Barry & Veronica Lucier seem to be leading a much more interesting life than we are. Barry is sporting a short haircut, an earring and a new sports car...and they went to St. Croix this summer! I guess since he took over my part-time job as a bartender on the Naples Princess, he must be making really good tips!
Meanwhile, I'm still at an upscale Pet Boutique waiting for the owner to return from Massachusetts where she has been since May. Once she returns I'll be giving my notice and venturing on to something new. Considering the number of places I have worked since moving here, it's amazing to think that I spent almost 30 years at BSG! I'll keep my hat in the animal ring, though. Jim and I are volunteering at the Humane Society, walking dogs and providing some human interaction with the cats. It's a non-euthanizing shelter so it's very rewarding to see pets adopted
that might otherwise be in Pet Heaven.
It's good to see the alumni pipeline active again!"
September 17, 2005:
We just heard from Pauline Weiner from our Corporate Office. If you'd like to drop her a note, her email address is in our Email Locator.
"Hello to everyone from Bay State Gas.
Congratulations to John & Kathy on your new Grandson. My son Jeff and his wife Jordana are expecting a son any day now. My daughters children are getting big. Emma is six and Andrew five.
It will be great having a new baby in the family. My husband Joel has been very ill. Hopefully, we will get past his illness and start to enjoy life again. It has been a long 10 months. Take Care all."
Pauline
September 14, 2005:
Summer's almost over, vacation memories are being locked away, so there's no better time than now to drop us a line and let your BSG Alumni friends know how you're doing. Don't delay, do it today!! Please Click Here to send us your update.
Your editors - John and Kathy Doucette -
had another gift this summer. Daughter Jennifer gave birth
to a baby boy named Timmy in July. He was a bit early, but
all is well and the family is very happy. He joins his sister
Elizabeth, and cousins Mikey, Ryan, Isabella and Christopher.
Got Diapers!
July 18, 2005:
Steve Durrigan has sent us news on his family's life in Tennessee.
Check it out.
"Hi John, Thanks for the updates lately. It is always good to hear about what's going on.
Last year, Kathy & I moved to Chattanooga, TN and I am now working for URS Corp., another Engineering, Procurement & Construction Company, installing clean coal technology at TVA power stations throughout the south.
I've been down here 16 months and I love it. The weather is great and I am in a great city, surrounded by mountains! Not quite the caliber of Colorado, but mountains just the same.
Kathy is still working as an Occupational Therapist, at an assisted living facility here in Chattanooga.
Sean is a Sophmore at WPI, so I get to Massachusetts every once in a while to move him back to school, etc.
Kailleen is going into her Junior year in high school, so I will have another heading to college soon enough.
Chattanooga is a great city. Plenty to do and less than a 2 hour drive to Atlanta, Nashville or Knoxville.
I am the head hockey coach at the Univ. of Tenn. (check us out at www.icevols.com)
We miss everyone in New England, but do NOT miss the 108" of snow you got last year!
Hope everyone is well. Stay in touch."
July 18, 2005:
We heard from Brenda Driscoll recently. She describes a "Close Encounter of the Nice Kind".
"My email address has changed (now driscollbld@charter.net).
I am working at the same place - looking for a better opportunity.
Would you believe I ran into Kim Reggio at Logan airport in March? She had moved to Florida and was taking her last flight out with her mother who was moving down just then. I was on my way to Texas to visit my sister. We had a great time catching up for a few minutes. That was a very nice surprise!!
Hope you are all doing well."
June 24, 2005:
We recently heard from Jim Moffitt, who worked in Westborough.
"Hi everyone. Living up in Manchester, NH now. Married with 2 girls. Michela, and Emma. Emma was born this past March. I'm working as a consultant for Verizon in Manchester."
June 8, 2005:
Bob Mortell (Westborough Computer Operations) has sent an update on what he's been up to. Bob also sent a number
of pictures, two of which appear below.
"Hi all you BSGers,
Gary Baker, and I are both working nights for a company called
American Student Assistance located in the old Saltonstall building
on 100 Cambridge Street in downtown Boston. Gary has worked here
for 3 years. I have been here for 2.
I have recently, well fairly recently, come back from a trip to the St. Rock, Haiti Foundation Clinic. In January of this year a group of us went to
work out of the clinic, which provides medical help
to some extremely poor people in Haiti. I plan to go back in January 2006. A
fellow parishioner from St. Ann's Church in Hull, Ma. started the
foundation, and built a clinic in St. Rock, Haiti located on a mountain,
near Port Au Prince, about 2 1/2 years ago. I joined the organization
recently, and serve as their secretary. I write the minutes for our
meetings.

As always it is nice to hear from our BSG Alumni. May you all stay healthy, well, and wise (well two out of three wouldn't be too bad).
Bob."
June 7, 2005:
News has been slow to come in lately, so here's an update from your editors, John and Kathy Doucette:
- Grandchildren count up to 5 (Mikey, Ryan, Elizabeth, Isabella and Christopher), with a 6th due in late August.
- Bought winter place in Florida. Enjoying it very much. Spent many fun times with Tom and Anne Sherman, who live nearby .
- John worked until very recently as an I/T consultant for Excelergy Corporation (energy software company). Was their oldest employee (now that really hurts).
- John currently home-based. Working on major de-weeding project. Kathy supervising.
- Kathy still operating AZ Web Builders, with very little help from John. If anybody needs a web site, let us know.
- Doucette household more in Democratic camp than ever.
- John's golf game improving. Finally got into 80s. Now it's on to the back nine!
- We'd love to hear from any Bay Staters tuning into the site.
May 25, 2005:
Walter McCarthy of the Brockton Division has sent in an update on the "FAB-10":
"As commish of the FAB 10, we meet once a month at various locations throughout the southcoast for laughs, comradeship, reminiscing, medical updates and lunch of course. We are very happy to see the web page back again.
Walter McCarthy Commish
P.S. We have had 92 meetings so far."
Note from Editor: Here is a vintage picture of one of the Fab 10's "business" lunches. Notice Jeff's take-charge style in action.
May 13, 2005:
Many of you by now have heard the news that Jack Simons, longtime dispatch manager in the Brockton Division, died tragically last night in a house fire at his home in Franklin. Jack's wife and daughter also died in the blaze. Our prayers and thoughts are with Jack's son and other members of his family.
We're all a bit older since we last met. If you have any recent pictures, please send them along using the instructions in our Photo Gallery. One alumnus recently did - Paul LaShoto. He's still our cover boy for good hair care!
August 4, 2003:
Walter Barker has a new email address, walbarker@charter.net, and also sent us the following update:
"Vivian and I just moved from our home of 35 years in Framingham to a condo in Worcester; it's right next door (different building) to our son, Mike's. It's quite an adjustment; we have a basement full of boxes and we are realizing very fast that we saved way to much "stuff". The condo development is located on Flint Pond which opens into Quinsigamond...a nice ride in Mike's 18' bowrider.
In the middle of our move, Vivian and I celebrated our grandson's 21st birthday and our 51st anniversary.
We'd love to hear from our friends at Bay State."
July 15, 2003:
Tom Sherman has exciting news to share.
"I am a new grandfather. My daughter Becky Cioppa and her husband Mark have a new son born on 6/24/03. His name is Zachary Thomas Cioppa. The baby and the new parents are doing fine. Some of you may remember Becky, she worked in Gas suppy in Westborough a few years ago."
Congratulations to Tom and Anne, and to Becky and Mark. We couldn't help but notice that the baby's middle name is Thomas. Great choice!!
We also recently heard from Steve Kerwin. He has a new email address and he'd love to hear from his old friends.
And Leslie Olyott, a relatively new BSG alum, has sent in greetings:
"What a great idea for a site! I had been keeping track of all the BSG alums until I became one myself at the end of Dec. 2002.
I just started a consulting contract at Wellington Management Company in Boston so I decided to share the good news. I'm happy to say on my third day of work, I finally made it to the office without getting lost!
Best regards to everyone. Please feel free to get in touch."
Leslie
Tom, Steve and Leslie would love to hear from you. Their email addresses can be found in our Email Locator.
June 4, 2003:
Fred Paine (Brockton) writes to tell us about a great offer he has for BSG Alumni. Here's Fred:
"I am with Peoples Mortgage offering terrific rates. I specialize in No Points, No Closing Costs, No Fees Mortgages. I can provide great rates if you want to refinance or buy a new Home. Now is a great time to take advantage of the NEW (yet again) historic low mortgage rates. Believe it or not if it has been 3 months since you refinanced, it is time to do it again. We offer great customer service and will be happy to close at your home."
Fred can be reached via email - fpaine@charter.net, or by phone at (508)529-0100.
We also heard from Walter Barker (Westborough). He just completed his second year at Arch Wireless and promises to check back with more later. Walter's email address is now in our Email Locator. Drop him a note. He'd love to hear from his pals at BSG.
May 13, 2003:
Tony Aguiar (Westborough), has checked in with news about his kids and work. He really enjoyed his days at BSG. Didn't we all? And it's not that our glasses are "rose colored", it really was a great place because of the wonderful people who worked there.
Please click on Tony's name to see what's going on at the Aguiars.
May 12, 2003:
Carol Terry (Westborough), a relatively new BSG alum after spending 12 years in the corporate accounting area, has written us with an update on her post Bay State life. Uh Oh! The Doucettes are beginning to breed. Jennifer (Doucette) Failla and her husband Tim were blessed with their first child, Elizabeth Ann, last Friday. That makes two grandkids for Bumpa John. And there's a third on the way. It goes without saying that John and Kathy are thrilled.
We're sure that there are other breeders out there. Send us a note and we'll spread the happy news.
April 23, 2003:
Walter McCarthy (Brockton Sales) has sent in another update on the goings-on of the Fab-10.
"Well, the band of 10 merry men met once again at an unknown location. They all treated the patrons to a fine song and at times louder than usual conversations that ranged from the days of Brockton Gas Light Company to the present Bay State Gas Company. Reminiscences of the past, tales of working through hurricanes, driving Nash Rambler company cars, tales of Fred Sullivan's reign as superintendant of the Brockton division, and finally a thought or two of those who have passed on to the gas light in the sky.
Most of our memories were wonderful, and we really love to share them with those amongst us. It's a wonderful way to share our thoughts with people who we have known since we all started our families and friendships 35 to 45 years ago. Bruce Turner will be sending photos of the Fab 10. Well, time to think of another retreat where the retirees can continue the embellishment of friendship.
Sincerely,
The Commish
Walter McCarthy
April 7, 2003:

March 27, 2003:
As our alumni check in from time to time, we've noticed that many have started their own businesses or are in new jobs with interesting products and services. So we thought we'd try something a little different. We've added a Business Referrals section where alumni can describe what they do and what they sell, with the goal of reaching out to fellow alumni as potential customers themselves, or perhaps for referrals of people they know who may be interested. The intent is not to make this site a commercial site; not at all. There will be no pop-up ads extolling the virtues of this or that. The feeling is that this new section will add some additional interest to the site, and will be another way to put alumni in contact with one another. We've added a link on the left side page index, and a short blurb in the right sidebar. Or simply click here to learn more.
March 25, 2003:
Dave Molzan (Westborough) and Annie Cronin (Westborough) have both recently checked in with their whereabouts and whatabouts. Just click on their names to learn more. They have landed with great companies and will be staying in touch with old friends thru the alumni site.
By the way, if anybody has photos or updates from Sally Richardson Healy's Benefit Dance, held last Friday, please let your editor (John Doucette) know by clicking here. If you were not able to attend, but would like to contribute, please click here to learn how you can help.
March 20, 2003:
Roberta
Orris (Westborough) writes to tell us that Paul Dexter (Westborough)
and his wife Pat are the proud owners and operators (since July, 2000) of
the
Henry Farm Inn, a fabulous Bed & Breakfast located in Chester, Vermont.
The inn is a two hundred year old farmhouse that was the first tavern in
Chester, when it served as a stagecoach stop on the Green Mountain Turnpike.
Your editor visited Paul's web site, and the inn and surrounding countryside
look truly spectacular. Roberta will be staying at the inn in July, and says
that Paul is offering special discounts to fellow Bay Staters. Please
click here to learn more about this great vacation getaway. And best
of luck to Paul, Pat and their son Joseph!!
March 19, 2003:
Genessa Dunbar (Westborough) has checked in to say hello to her Bay State friends:
"Hello everyone- boy do I miss the good times at BSG. I am working in Westborough at Trueadvantage- but nothing will ever compare to BSG! Take care - I miss you all! Genessa"
You can find Genessa's email address in our Email Locator. She'd love to hear from you.
March 11, 2003:
Thom O'Grady (Westborough) has written to let us know that on Friday,
March 21st, a benefit dance will be held for Sally Richardson Healy
a longtime employee who worked in Demand Side Management. Sally is battling
breast cancer and the benefit is being held to help with expenses. We hope
to get as many of Sally's old Bay State friends there as possible. Please
click here to learn more about the benefit and how you can help.
March 3, 2003:
Muriel Thompson (Westborough) has a new email address. She also sent a brief update to her BSG friends:
"I am still retired and enjoying it very much. Last year I went back to Scotland and England to visit family and friends and had a wonderful time. It was the first time "home" following the deaths of my husband and mother.
I look forward to getting caught up again on what has been going on with the BSG Alumni."
We also recently heard from Carol Pilkington. She's now an official member of the BSG Alumni, and has sent us an update on her "new" life:
"Hi everyone,
Last November I became a member of the Bay State alumni group leaving Bay State after 18 years of service.
My new endeavor is to be a stay at home mom for my two boys, Christopher 8, and Bryan 7. I never thought I would enjoy staying home as much as I do, and the boys really love me being home for them.
I have completed projects that I thought would never leave the "to-do" list, and actually enjoy doing them.
I have never baked so many goodies in my life, or had the time to actual think about what was for dinner instead of just throwing anything together. This is the part I think my husband Peter likes the best. Although being able to do projects around the house comes in a close second.
I have adapted rather quickly to this life style, and will probably enjoy it for quite some time."
Carol has also sent us her new email address. You can find hers and Muriel's in our Email Locator. Please drop them a note. They'd love to hear from their old friends at BSG.
February 24, 2003:
Pauline Weiner (Westborough) has a new email address. We've also heard from Thom O'Grady (Westborough). You can find their email addresses in our Email Locator. Please drop them a note. They'd love to hear from their old friends at BSG.
February 22, 2003:
Walter McCarthy (Brockton Sales) has sent in another update on the goings-on of the Fab-10. Walter has been one of our most loyal contributors. Here's what he had to say:
"Hi John,
I thought I would update the Fab 10 escapades. We recently met @ The Jockey Club in Raynham. Bob Jeffries looks very well and is looking forward to summer on Cape Cod. We all meet down to Buttermilk Bay once a summer and it qualifies as a meeting. Bob Hannon opens up his place in Maine for all. We call it the Hannon Open as a few play golf. I would not dare to repeat some of the goings on and stories I receive. They all have a great time together. Bill Reid really looks forward to our meetings and has a lot to say at them. Sometimes I have to gavel him down. Great fun. The rest of the comedy team is Eldie Johnson, Dick Martel, Danny Silva, Ralph Owens, Bruce Turner, Bob Davis and Commish Walter McCarthy. Hope you all have a fine 2003."
Editors Note: These guys really embody the fun-loving spirit we all experienced at Bay State Gas. It's great to find them still enjoying the deep friendships they made. Have a great spring and summer, Fab 10. (kind of sounds like a group of aging super-heroes, doesn't it?)
February 21, 2003:
Sonja Teasdale (Westborough) has sent in two photos from Naples Florida. Seems that a number of BSG alumni are enjoying the sunshine state. Here is Sonja's message followed by the photos:
"The first picture was taken at dinner in Punta Gorda which was a mid-point for meeting up with Tom and Anne Sherman, Roger Young (who was staying with the Sherman's in Venice) and Dick and Jan Davis. It was a great evening of catching up! The other picture was taken at "happy hour" with Veronica And Barry Lucier. They recently moved to Naples and we're happy to have them as fellow Neapolitans! Hope you're staying warm!"

While there, John and Kathy visited with Roger and Diane Falcione and got in a few rounds of golf with them as well. Roger has a new venture going involving the racing business. Check out his web site at www.dragracing.com. He sends his best wishes to his friends throuout the company, and invites anyone who is in the Phoenix area to spend a few days at his home. His hospitality knows no bounds.
January 18, 2003:
Tom Sherman has informed us that his beloved father Bob died this
past week.
"I wanted you all to know that my dad, Bob Sherman, passed away on Wednesday, 1/15/03. He had his second stroke last week and had been unhealthy since my Mom died last May. He was 90 years old and lived a very full life and all his children(3) and grandchildren(8) were with him just before he died. The obit is in today's (Friday's) Globe and more detailed obits will be in a number of local papers in the North Shore area.
Anne and I have become residents of Venice, Florida and will be spending considerable time there particularly in the winter. We will be heading back down next Tuesday and would love to here from any of you." Tom
Tom's email address is tsherm@aol.com. The BSG alumni pass on our sincere condolences to Tom and his entire family.
January 17, 2003:
Wayne Jewett, our favorite Northeastern Husky, is going back to college! Here's a note he sent today:
"Hi everyone, I started my new job Jan 6th at Bryant College as Associate Controller and would like to thank everyone who supported me thru the rough year of 2002. I can be reached at 401-232-6009."
Wayne
That's great news Wayne! If any other alumni are looking to change jobs and would like to network by using this site, please send a note and we'll post it. Or if you've started your own small business, send us some information about it and we'll provide you with some free advertising.
January 8, 2003:
George Dorr informs us that he has a new email address. You can find it in our
Email Locator. Drop him a line,
he'd love to hear from you.
As this editor was going through my 2002 email as part of my annual purge, I came across a September 2002 message from Dennis Blackwell that I failed to post on the site. Shame on me. Well, better late than never, so here it is. Given all the snow we've had, maybe it will cheer you up!
"I thought that I would share a picture with everyone of a Hometown Propane
Bobtail and some balloons that we serviced at the 1st Annual Tedeschi
Balloon Festival in Weymouth. I think that the fellow standing gawking at
the balloons is me.
The Balloons are an awesome sight to behold. I am sure that they were more common in AZ, but to see them in action in MA is a not so common a sight, and the whole process of getting them in the air and of course safely down again is something." Click Here for larger photo.

January 3, 2003:
We recently heard from Gerry Doherty. He will soon be leaving Bay State Gas after a long and productive career,
and sends along the following wishes to his fellow alumni:
"After nearly 32 years with Bay State Gas, I am in my final month of employment. I just want to take this opportunity to thank all of you, my friends and co-workers, who have been a big part of my life for these many years. I enter the alumni fraternity with an open mind and an eye and ear for opportunity. I respectfully ask my fellow alumni to be an extension of my eyes and ears for potential opportunities.
Thanks again to all!"
We will do that, Gerry, and we wish you the best of luck, and extend our thanks for being such a wonderful co-worker for so many years.
Editor's Note: Gerry's new email address can be found in our Email Locator.

Walter McCarthy has checked in with an update on the illustrious "Fab 10", a group of Brockton Retirees
who meet on a regular basis to reminisce and raise hell. Here is Walter's update.
"The Fab 10 met once again to the delight of the customers of the Monponsett Inn. Jeff was once again his gregarious self. We are all hoping that Eldie Johnson returns shortly and regains his health. Dick Martel is keeping track of him for us. Bob Hannon, the early bird at these meetings seems to enjoy very much the art of retirement along with Bill Reid, Bob Davis, Ralph Owens and the rest of the Fab 10. It's a good social outlet for the ten of us to reminisce and swap stories dating back to the fifties. It can get quite interesting listening to some of the tales. Benzie our mascot and the rest of the Fab 10 would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year."

Marty Kulig just checked in with his email address and he'd love to hear from you. You can find his address in our Email Locator.
Here is a brief update on yours truly (John Doucette). Kathy and I celebrated the wedding of our daughter Kristen this past September. Kristen and Glenn had a wonderful day all around, and their reception at the Hotel Lenox was a blast. They're very happy and that's what counts the most. Son John is engaged to be married next June. Daughter Jennifer and her husband Tim are expecting their first child - due next April. Our first grandchild, baby Michael, is six months old and a real cutie! Kathy and I have restarted our Web site design business. In addition to creating sites for small businesses, we're also developing wedding web sites. Go to www.nowannouncing.com, to see some of our work. If you know of anyone who is getting married, please steer them our way. We'll treat them right.
Merry Christmas to all of the BSG Alumni! If you have any Christmas wishes you'd like to share, please us our Feedback Form. It's a great way to reconnect at this special time of year.

We just heard from Linda (Burke) Heishman, a soon to be alum out of Springfield/Ludlow. She'd love to hear from some of her old friends, and inquired on the whereabouts of Phil Kallagher. If anyone knows where Phil is, please email us and we'll post the information.
Please click here to read Linda's update.
October 16, 2002:
Joey Perry (Westborough alum) recently emailed us with an offer to BSG alumni:
"Anyone interested in a Hockey Night? My friends at the Lowell Lockmonsters just pulled off a great event for my Business Networking Association. It included tickets to the game and a great buffet for only $30 per person. We had great seats, we got to hang out in the club room before the game up until the end of the first period, and when we ran out of food - they brought more.
It's great fun for the kids, too. They do special contests and games throughout the evening.
Let me know if people are interested. I'd be happy to set it up."
You can reach Joey via email at jperry@jnrmarketing.com
October 10, 2002:
We recently received the following greeting from Sonja Teasdale, from sunny Naples, Florida.
"Sailing, sailing...
Jim and I recently got together with Dick and Jan Davis, and Tom and Anne Sherman aboard The Naples Princess. (FYI The non BSG couple in one of the photos is my hairdresser and his wife who were also our guests on the boat that evening. They thought our little group was so much fun, they continued on with us for dinner later that evening!)" .

We recently heard from Roger Bazin. He and his wife Jane moved to a new home in Berwick, Maine in January. We've added his email address to our Email Locator, so drop him a line. He'd love to hear from you.
Walter McCarthy also reports that "The Fab 10" met on the 23rd of August at the Gateway Tavern on the Wareham-Marion line. Here is Walter's report:
"Jeff led us in our Fab 10 fight song. As usual Bob Hannon could not carry a tune. Bill Reid was called by a waitress 'The Mayor of The Tavern'. Dick Martell was his interesting self, telling stories about yesteryear. We all have a great time every month at different places. We all look forward to these get togethers."
Thanks for the update, Walter. It's nice to see some traditions carrying on like this one. And we're happy you guys have so far avoided being arrested for disturbing the peace!!
We also heard from Don Preskenis. Click on his name and you'll get an update on Don and his family.
And Liz Brendler has checked in with news that she has started her own home-based business working with a natural swiss skin and health care company. If you would like to try the products, let Liz know! Her email is in our Email Locator.

Vic Platania's long and successful career at Bay State was celebrated by scores of his friends from the company at a gala suprise retirement party held on Friday evening, September 13th. Bart Madeiros did a great job organizing Vic's time, which was attended by alumni from every division. Just a few of the guests who went back a long way with Vic were John Snow, Bob Aziz, Dick Kallery, and Bob "Out the gate in '88" Kingsley.
We have some pictures courtesy of Michelle Pratte. Just click on the links below.

August 31, 2002:
The Alumni get-together at Dick Scullary's home last weekend was a lot of fun. Although the turnout was modest, we all enjoyed a "world series" of volleyball that lasted most of the afternoon. Throw in some frisbee tossing, and some great food prepared by master chef Dick, and everyone enjoyed themselves. The best part, of course, was meeting old friends and recounting favorite Bay State memories.
In attendance, along with Dick, were Wayne Jewett, Chris Tenney, Marge Izzo, Bill Bergen, Rich Toronto, Bob Mortell, Paul LaShoto, Gary Baker, and yours truly, John Doucette. There were also alumni children (Waynes's daughter, Chris's son, and Marge's son) and other guests who graciously put up with the storytelling and the very competitive volleyball.
Here are a few pictures:

Many thanks to Dick for hosting this great time. Let's do it again next year!!
August 8, 2002:
Well, it's been a while since we've had some news to report, but here goes. First of all, Dick Scullary and Wayne Jewett are organizing an Alumni Softball Game and Cookout that is scheduled to take place an Saturday, August 24th, from about 12:00 noon on at Dick's home in Medfield, Mass. Families are welcome as well. Please let Dick or Wayne know if you'll be able to make it. Their emails can be found by clicking here. It should be a great time!
We've also heard from three alumni, Steve Curran , Mary Casey Cerce, and Fred Paine. Just click on their names to find out what's been happening with them.
We'd love to hear from more alumni. Come on - don't be shy. Just click here and gossip along with us.
July 11, 2002:
It's a boy!! Michael Doucette and his wife Mary are the proud parents of a baby boy - named Michael Jr. of course. John and Kathy are excited grandparents, as you might imagine. Click here for a picture of the little guy.
Are there any other births out there in BSG alumni-land? Let us know and we'll publish the happy news.
June 18, 2002:
OK. They really had to rub it in! While we've been enduring the rain and the cold temperatures here in Massachusetts, the Davis and Teasdale duos have been soaking up the sun in Florida. Click here and be very jealous.
June 17, 2002:
Somebody you could always count on for a bright smile and hello has checked in - Kerry DaSilva. Also, Alba Hayward is back from a fun-filled Florida vacation and is knee deep in her flower garden.
John Doucette and Mike Mulloy got together for lunch last week for the first time in over three years. They mutually agreed that neither had aged a day. And no, they weren't drinking! They're just delusional. Mike has been providing loving care and support to his wife Dulcie, who suffers from a rare nerve disorder. Please keep them in your prayers.
June 10, 2002:
We're baaaaaack! Yes, John and Kathy Doucette have completed their cross-country journey from Arizona and are comfortably settled in their new home in Newburyport, Massachusetts. So it's time to crank up the activity on our alumni web site. Let us know what you've been up to of late by clicking here and we'll share it with your fellow Bay Staters.
Simone (Hyslop) Major is still working in the Portsmouth Division and provides us with an update on her kids and her life.
May 20, 2002:
A message from Tom Sherman received yesterday: "I lost my mom, Carolyn Sherman, last night. She was 87 and lived a very energetic and fulfilling life. My Dad, 89, and siblings, Mike Sherman and Surrey Hardcastle and Spouses were with her the day that she died. She leaves us as well as 8 grandchildren and two great grandchildren."
The alumni's condolences go out to Tom and the entire Sherman family.
May 14, 2002:
Editor's Note from John Doucette:
If you've noticed a gap in the recent news reports, you're correct. As reported earlier, Kathy and I are moving back to Massachusetts after spending almost three years in Phoenix. We left the Valley of the Sun last Thursday by car, and are spending time along the way taking in the sights of this great country. This report is being written after two days of driving thru the awesome (and I use that overused word carefully) Colorado Rockies. I will provide additional updates on our trip later, along with what should be some great pictures. We expect to arrive in Massachusetts before the end of the month.
In the meantime, three alums have checked in recently. Todd Black and Fred Paine are still toiling in the energy field and remembering fondly their BSG days. And Donna Cullen reports that she is expending a different kind of energy these days. Please check out their updates and drop them an email when you have a moment.
May 7, 2002:
From across the country, emerging from the deep winter snows and the frigid degree days of Minnesota, Walter Levesque checks in with news of his work at Itron and his family. From his reminiscences, you'll see that the BSG flame still burns brightly in his heart.
Paul LaShoto reports that an article he wrote after leaving Bay State was recently published in the April edition of the Pipeline and Gas Journal. The title is "Bay State Gas Profits from Voluntary Methane Emission Reductions". What prompted Paul's writing the article was Bay State being chosen the US Environmental Protection Agency's Gas Distribution Partner of the Year in 2000 for reducing methane losses. You can read Paul's article by clicking here.
Dick Davis is asking for the alumni's help in putting him in touch with Jim and Pat Burke. If you have their phone number or email address, please send Dick an email at ddddjan@aol.com.
And Bruce Turner is trying to track down Jane Campagna. If you have any information on Jane's whereabouts, please send Bruce an email at bturner6417@attbi.com.
May 2, 2002:
Sign Up Now!!
George Dorr informs us that he needs to know by no later than May 15th if you would like to participate in this October's first ever BSG Alumni Golf Outing down on the Cape at Pocassett Golf Club. The club requires booking for large parties well in advance. If you're interested, please send George an email ASAP at gedw@gis.net. It should be a lot of fun and will give everyone a chance to see old friends and make excuses about our golf games. The tentative date is either October 7th or October 21st. The cost will be $115.00 per person, everything included - greens fees, cart, dinner (prime rib), and prizes. What A Deal!! Lunch will also be available for $10.00. Spouses and significant others can play golf as well, or they can simply enjoy a day on Cape Cod at one of the most beautiful times of year.
Don't miss out on the fun. Please email George today at gedw@gis.net!!
April 30, 2002:
The temperature in sunny Florida today is in the 80s, so we're all very jealous of Sonja and Jim Teasdale. Sonja updates us on the active life her and Jim are leading in the beautiful city of Naples.
April 29, 2002:
It's rare when you can get your hands on a classic photo. Although taken fairly recently, this one is seemingly frozen in time, and captures the essence of that most memorable of division managers - Bob Jeffery. Please click here.
April 26, 2002:
Thanks to Margie Izzo, we've tracked down an alumnus with one of BSG's more finely-honed senses of humor - Rick Cencini. His sly smile often was a hint that you had to be on your guard.
We've also heard from Chris Tenney, another alumnus who shared his laughter and sense of humor with everyone he came in contact with.
April 25, 2002:
Margie Izzo reminds us that Kelly Mullen will be joining our alumni group as of May 1st. "Those of us left have planned a get together in her honor @ Pipinell's in Franklin for hors d'oeuvres and cocktails on May 1, 2002 at 5:30 p.m. and hope that the friends she has made over the years will be there to wish her all the best. The cost will be $15."
Anyone interested in attending, please respond to Margie by 4/26.
One of the real gentleman of BSG has checked in - Joe Almeida. Read his update and find out what he's up to these days.
John and Kathy Doucette are back from their visit to Boston. It was a productive trip - a baby shower and house hunting topped the agenda. They managed to keep the site active while away, thanks to their trusty laptop. Read their recent update for more details about their trip.
April 23, 2002:
Wayne Jewett would like to organize an alumni softball game. If you are interested, please send Wayne an email. His address is in our Email Locator.
As we approach the nice weather season, our alumni must be spending more time outdoors and away from their computers. If this trend continues, your editor may be compelled to make up outrageous stories to fill the void. Don't be shy. We'd love to hear from you. It's easy -just click here.
April 22, 2002:
Ed Radwilowicz checks in again, with fond memories of the hockey prowess of some of our alumni, and Tom Gilbert updates us on what is happening in his job at Nisource.
April 18, 2002:
Bob Aziz reports that he and wife Thora are enjoying life on the seacoast and Ed Radwilowicz checks in with a sighting and an update on what's happening in his life.
George Dorr has more information on the Alumni Golf Outing we mentioned a few days ago. The tentative date is either October 7th or October 21st. The cost will be $115.00 per person, everything included - greens fees, cart, dinner (prime rib), and prizes. Lunch will be available for $10.00.
George says that the ladies could play golf or take a shopping trip, lunch at the vineyard, etc. He reports that the 7th of October is one of the best times to be on Cape Cod, or just be in New England. At some point he will need to set up a committee to take reservations and someone to collect moneys. He'll take care of the golf arrangements and come up with a list of places people could stay.
The important thing right now is to let us know if you are interested so that he can look in a date. Please click here to do so.
April 15, 2002:
The inimitable (is that how you spell it?) Bob Hevert has checked in with a brief update and a promise of more to come about what's been happening in his life. Also, Terry Ryan has been inspired by the recent alumni update from Roger Falcione and he brings back some old Canton memories.
And we have the beginnings of our first "alumni inspired" event. George Dorr would like to know if there is any interest in a late summer or fall Golf Outing down on the Cape at Pocassett Golf Club, where George is a member. We would need about 50 participants. If you're interested, please use our Provide Info Form and we will get the information to George. Sounds like a lot of fun and a chance to see old friends and make excuses about our golf games.
April 11, 2002:
Bruce Turner, who spent many productive years at both the Brockton Division and in the Corporate Office, is doing well and enjoying retirement. Check out his update.
And John Snow has sent us a photo that will leave all you golfers drooling. Click Here and you may get a new perspective on where the athletic prowess lies in the Snow family.
April 10, 2002:
At long last we've heard from that one alumnus who got great pleasure in torturing his fellow Bay Staters with pranks and gags that were borderline cruel, but (most of the time) very funny. Roger Falcione checks in from the Valley of the Sun and his update indicates that he still carries the torch for another distinguished alumnus. And who might that be?
April 9, 2002:
Someone who goes back longer than even he wants to admit has checked in. Dick Davis brings us greetings from Florida, news about the S.S. Davis, updates on his daughters and the Davis grandkids, and some scuttlebutt on two other famous alumni.
We also have a second update from our old friend, George Dorr of the Brockton Sales department. He and Ruth are keeping busy with golf down on the Cape where they have retired. And his four daughters are making him very proud with their careers and families.
April 8, 2002:
Joan Calarese has sent in a number of photos from our years in Canton. Check them out in our Photo Gallery. And if you have any vintage photos you'd like to share with your fellow alumni, there are instructions on the Photo Gallery page on how to get them posted to the site.
April 5, 2002:
We've added a new Events section to the site. We'll use it to display photos and other information on retirement parties, reunions, and other alumni happenings. Check it out, and by all means let us know if you're planning an event in the future. We'll help you publicize it on the site. The Events section currently contains photos from the retirement parties of Mary Jane Brophy, Ann Pope, and Marie McPhee.
April 4, 2002:
An alumnus from our Brockton Sales department, Walter McCarthy, checks in with a brief update on his retirement.
We also have a photo in our In Memoriam section, courtesy of Bob Jeffery. It features two really unforgettable characters who left their mark on Bay State Gas in grand style.
April 3, 2002:
We have heard from Carol Pilkington who, although still working for BSG out of the Brockton location, wants to update her friends from days past about her work, her kids, and her aggressive exercise schedule.
And our "Lost Not Found" appeal has located another alumnus, the inimitable Bill Bergen. He updates us on his job and his dog, the beloved Nick. His email address is now available in our Email Locator and he'd love to hear from you.
Like many of our alumni, Bill expresses a desire to get some of the gang together for a reunion. We hope the site inspires many of us to do just that; in small or large groups, whatever makes sense. Let us know if you have any ideas or plans along these lines. We can use the site to help you get the word out.
April 2, 2002:
One of the real ironmen of the Computer Services organization has checked in. Al Littizzio brings us up to date on his retirement, his home on Lake Winnepesaukee, and his children.
April 1, 2002:
Don't worry. No April Fool's jokes today. Just additional updates from a number of our alumni. George Simmons is consulting for the state and shares some of his "animal instincts" with us. Terry Ryan is the first alumni with a second update. He's setting a good example for the rest of us. Tom Sacco has his hands happily full with family and home happenings. Paul Challenger checks in with news of work and family, with a sporting twist. And Paul LaShoto has our most unusual update to date.
